Re: Franklin County WPRA Update

This report and the recent cool weather is perfect timing. One can't help but think of the upcoming fall and small game hunting.
It's amazing what a difference in using wild birds make. Just a handful in good habitat, and look at the results.
I think were in the home stretch for fall now!

It's breeding,training...and something unknown.

That's great! Wonder how the other WPRA's are doing? Haven't seen anything on crow counts and such.

it's good that they said they will open up to hunting after 6 years. When are the others opening? Would think this year right?

Is it on a public hunting area? I would be more than willing to go down there and help swack some coyotes and foxes for them...

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

You might want to read that article again more closely. I don't think it said quite what you think it did.

I just figured it had the best chance at the first WPRA to open

Perhaps but I kinda thought the Central Susquehanna WPRA would be the first. Who really knows? I just hope the programs are successful and even grow and we have some semblance of wild pheasant hunting again here in PA. Of course I'm kind of hooked on grouse & woodcock hunting now.

Re: Franklin County WPRA Update

The process in the pheasant management plan was to release 300 wild birds a year for three years and then monitor the population for three additional years and then make a determination. Unfortunately when you're dealing with wildlife, it doesn't usually go that smoothly. They only got 55 birds last year and who knows how many they'll get this year. Also the hard winter last year also set population growth back a bit and it will take a couple years to recoup those numbers. CREP is just reopening after a three year down time due to the farm bill issue so we will soon see some new acres going into cover planting to help boost numbers.
