So i gave my buddy a call on thursday to see if he wanted to get after the birds that had been off and on roosted on his property throughout the week. He agreed to get after them and try for his first Spring turkey ever. When we got to his place we slowly got settled down and listened, instantly we heard them sounding off down by the creek but couldnt tell if they were on his side or not. We quickly got set up and soon realized we had at least one longbeard sounding off on the right side of the creek. From this point on it became a classic off the roost hunt. once they flew down they let out a gobble and closed the distance quick. We quickly adjusted our guns and saw two red and blue heads running tward my dekes. Once they saw my jake strutter and hen they puffed up into full strut and started to do the dance trying to intimidate the jake. well my friend and I were picking our birds out and waiting for them to spread out a little and counted 1,2,3...BOOM!BOOM! my first double with someone else and my good friends first spring gobbler ever. my bird had a 9.75" beard with 1" solid spurs, my buddies bird had a 9.5" beard and a rubbed down .75" nub and a solid 1" hook. Also i called these two in on Tuesday and they came in behind me strutting and spitting (the one had a missing tail feather) So I must mark this one down as one of my most memorable hunts of all time. And just a wonderful season in the great PA spring woods.
