Rainy day hunt

I'v been scouting hard these past 2 months and felt like when saturday came around it was gonna be a slam dunk. well i got my butt kicked by the turkeys on saturday.(heard a ton but couldnt get any within range by 8:30am.) So i decided to take my buddy out with me on monday morning. We hunted his property where i heard a few birds on the roost on saturday and only had a few that werent where we needed them to be. So we hunted my property. Right when we got to my house i hit the pot call in my backyard and wham! 3 different birds answered. My buddy didnt have much time left to hunt and i actually didnt either, so we hunted that bird hard until he got hung up and shut up for 45 mins. My buddy ended up walking out of the woods and i stayed to try and wait him out, well as my buddy got to my driveway the tom we were working made his way to my setup silent! he was strutting and putting on a show beautifully. I rolled him at 25 yds. He was a nice bearded 2 year old. (real full beard) stats are 10 and 3/4 inch beard. with 3/4 inch hooks (one was a little longer) i didnt get a weight on him plus he was soaking wet anyway and the rain and weather was just getting nasty so i didnt take pics until the afternoon. (not the best pics) I went out today to the same spot i got him yesterday and had 2 longbeards come 5 steps from me and just spitted and strutted right behind me. i could have maybe spun around and whacked one to fill tag #2 but i decided not to chance it and try again thursday. a jake showed up after they walked off and just wouldnt leave. he had a death wish too, he walked though. It's been a great start to my spring. hope everyone else is having a good season.

it was deff. a tough call. i feel i made the right decision just because i didnt spook those birds. maybe a little education to the call but not spooked by a swing and BAM! or injured. however i also thought that theyd be back today and i didnt get a chance at anything but 2 jakes who were ON FIRE this morning. just wouldnt quit gobbling. thanks for comments guys!
