We watched these two gobblers disappear into the woods yesterday evening with a pair of hens. We slipped in early and got settled. Gobbling started up a bit later than we expected, around 6:05ish. They weren't super responsive to my calling so I kept the calling to a minimum and let out just enough to let them know I was there. After fly down we heard only 2 sets of gobbles, each progressively closer.
Finally, I caught movement just inside the woodline. A jake led the way to the deeks with two longbeards in tow. Now at just 15 yards, we let them settle in. After coordinating the shot we dropped both longbeards with one crack. Done by 6:30. Can't beat that. Did hear a fair amount of shooting this morning. 6 shots within reasonable hearing distance, all before 615. Sounds like it was a rough day for the local gobblers.
While one bird had a little extra weight on it, they are both sporting about 1" spurs and about 9 1/2" beards. Look to be solid 2 yr olds. Here's a pic
