It's been several years since I got a spring bird, came close the last few years but never connected. My luck changed yesterday. I went out Friday night to try to put some birds to bed but saw or heard nothing. Got up Saturday and went to an area I knew usually held birds. On my way in, I owl hooted a few times, but again, nothing. Got set up and waited. One hen began to yelp and the gobbling started. There were at least 5 different gobbles. As it began to get light, I saw a few birds fly down to a little field I could not see in. Once they hit the field, it got quiet again. I sat and called for the next hour and a half but nothing. I decided to move a few hundred yards away and worked a gobbler with a hen but he would not leave her or get into range. Once they moved off I moved to another area a few more hundred yards away and finally connected at 9:45. Got him in to 20 yards. My biggest bird ever 22lbs, 10" beard and 1 1/4" spurs.
