Bearded HEN

I have a couple cameras out in an area known for their "strutin'" area. I have several nice birds on htere lately, but the most unusual is a pic of a bearded hen, She has about a 5 inch beard,

My question to you hunters is, would you shoot her or let her walk? Would you concider her a trophy over a long beard? It sure would look nice on my wall beside my tom.

Re: Bearded HEN

Personally I will let her walk. I know a guy who shot one and found an egg in her, and that sort of turned me. It's a legal bird so to each there own!
Safe spring either way with your decision

Having one child makes you a parent; having two makes you a referee... Take your kid's hunting!!!

Bearded hens aren't that rare actually. Here's a video of one from a couple of days ago.

Re: Bearded HEN

I shot one in the spring and have no problem if someone else does. The reason I shot mine was I had missed 2 the fall season before and our turkey population is on the edge of being out of control where I hunt in northern Potter, esp. the hen population. Had the population been low I would of probably gave her a pass. So now I have a nice 5 5/8" hen beard/fan on the wall and I will tell you after having 5 full turkey mounts and numerus beards and spurs hanging throughout the house the hen beard/fan mount is the most talked about by the people I bring into our home that aren't up on the turkey seen.

Honesty is my only excuse.

Re: Bearded HEN

Spring season, I let em walk. Shot a bearded hen last fall, though, that had a 6 inch beard.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!
