Just wondering if the PGC will follow what the PFBC did for trout season and do a surprise opener on turkey season. I am thinking that I need to get my vest ready to roll in case they do. :grin2:
Highly doubtful. How many times have you been in the woods for spring gobbler and had folks elbow to elbow for a wild turkey. Pheasant season now that would be a different story.
Yes I believe it has something to do with the timing of the nesting hens. Seems to me NY should be about the same as us being so close geographically and they open around April 1.
Just had this conversation with my wife the other day about how spring gets earlier every year. The best proof I have, and I’ll be curious to hear if anyone else sees this, is by looking at photos of turkeys you harvested during the first 2 weeks of the season 10-15 years ago or longer in PA. Most of my pics from years ago have very little green/ budding on trees in the background. The last few years the leaves are full blown.
Many people keep questioning why the Pennsylvania turkey season is set for the time it is.
I have explained it may times but still some reject the answer or that in Pennsylvania structures their seasons with first consideration toward the resource.
