I woke up this morning to a downpour here in 1a. I decided to hunt a field where I called in a gobbler for my Dad on Tuesday. We had seen 2 others and heard a couple more that didnt want to play.
The morning started off slow. The rain was coming down and all I heard was a few distant gobbles. Around 0800 a hen moved into the field by herself. I got her to come in a feed and work through the dekes. She ended up working her way off. Me and her went back and forth for awhile all the while getting a couple gobblers talking.
I thought I heard a closer gobble. I looked over my shoulder and this guy came strutting in from behind me. As he worked his way to the live decoy in the field I ended up dumping him at 35 yards with Hevi shot #7’s out of an 870.
18.5 lbs, 10” beard and had 1” spurs.
This makes #3 killed for the week I have taken part in. Been a good week so far. Good luck out there.
