New Turkey “Rifle”

Savage recently released their 212T and 220T bolt action shot guns as a factory turkey gun. Previously these were Savage custom shop guns. I have used the savage 220 bolt action rifled barrel 20 gauge slug gun in MA for a few years (no rifles in MA) and love the crisp rifle trigger. I will be adding a Burris fast fire 3 to the rail.

Working the action of the bolt is obviously slower than an auto, or a pump, but with the crisp trigger the first shot should be all I ever need.

I started to turkey hunt about a decade ago and killed a few with my bow before I started to SG hunt. Since then I have used 3 different guns without finding the “perfect” gun. I hope my search is over. Gun should be shipped soon.

I always was kinda intrigued by those 220's for deer. The turkey version with that FastFire should be a great time with it.

What choke tubes does it take?

I just watched a show “Savage Outdoors” where they were using these guns. They look real nice. The one host did miss one on the first shot. I suspect it was because of distance of the shot though. It definitely seemed slower on the reload compared to typical shotguns.

Looks like a nice gun. Good luck with it. Im curious in the results.

Top picture is the 220 slug with Boyd stock. The fit and finish on the new turkey gun is better on my beloved slug gun

The gun has Win threads and comes with an aftermarket full choke. Trulock I think.
