Hello everyone -
I had posted this in the success pics/stories thread but wanted to share it in a regular post as well. Last Wednesday afternoon about 4:50pm this guy came trotting into view about 40yds out in front of me angling towards me from left to right. I saw three good tines on his right and so never looked at his rack again before letting him have it with the 20g ultra slug hunter at about 30yds. He went another 15yds or so and piled up with his head and rack facing away. I was pretty surprised to see the size and character of his rack when I walked around the front of him. He was a good body size and sported a rack that was just over 23" wide. His right side was typical with 5pts (4 tines + brow). His left was non-typical with 4 tines, a semi-split brow, a drop tine and the end was sort of palmated with a few small sticker pts coming off of it (9-11 pts depending on what would be counted as a legal pt). I'd never seen the buck before despite running a couple cameras on the property where I spend most of my time. Every once and a while we see a good buck around and luckily this time he showed up in front of me. It was destiny I think since I missed a small 6pt in the morning that I would have been content with. I put in a lot of stand hours between archery and the first few days of gun season so I felt like I had kinda "earned" at least a chance at a decent buck at some point.
Needless to say this is one for the wall. Even the wife agreed and did not really put up much of a argument. Good luck to all the rest of the season. Hope this gives a little incentive to keep getting out into the woods the rest of the season!
