Lifeline called in at Michaux on rifle opener.....

What happened in Michaux St forest out off of Thompson Hollow road in Shippensburg on the first day of rifle in the afternoon?

I hunted in upper strasburg in the morning and came home around 2, ate lunch and went back out at 3 to my truck (my property is off Whitmer) and heard a noise I hadn't heard since Iraq, a chopper idling. I hop in my truck to go walk around an area off of Thompson Hollow road and in the clearing by it there was the helicopter and a DCNR explorer, ambulances, and firetrucks and everyone looked busy. I asked one of my neighbors what happened and he said he heard a guy fell out of a treestand. I looked in the local papers but didn't read anything about it. Just curious as to what happened and if the guy was ok. It looked pretty serious from the amount of responders there.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

From a reliable source: 75 year old man fell from a treestand. Broke both legs, ribs, pelvis and more. Supposedly this was his second time.

Ouch. I hope he's ok. I thought it was weird there was nothing in the local paper about it. Like I said from the looks of all the responders it could have been serious.

Sad thing is you know the cost of a safety harness pales in comparison of the bills for all that..... Quite frankly I'd be scared to go up a tree with out one. Stuff happens.

Re: Lifeline called in at Michaux on rifle opener.....

Walking in last week, found a tree strap on the ground on a deer trail just off the road. My son first said "cool." but questioned why I gathered it up and placed it neatly at the bottom of a tree on the road. "It still belongs to someone, even though we found it" I told him. A little later saw orange in a tree at about 100 yards. The hunter obviously was not tied in, probably his strap. But for the half mile back to the road, I would have liked to given him his strap.
If you don't have a harness or strap, don't climb the tree.
