Where are the hunters?

A few weeks ago in bear season im not sure you could have had 1 more guy at any of the camps in my area. Campers were even hauled in to accomadate the extra hunters. I havent see that many guys in for some time. Deer season came in and no hunters.. barely 2 trucks per camp some were completely empty. Did these guys find other areas to hunt? I know there are deer and there is plenty of sign to be found? Could it be the posted signs going up everywhere and guys not wanting to pay lease fees? I will agree there are less deer but this is one of the best years ive seen for deer numbers in the last couple seasons.

They're all on here, complaining about the lack of deer.

Re: Where are the hunters?

One factor that does not get mentioned very much is the economic situation over the past several years. There has been a large number of people that have lost jobs and taken new jobs at less pay and having to start at the bottom of the vacation time benefits. Lot of guys just don't have the expendable income and the vacation time they used to have.

Re: Where are the hunters?

that how its been the last few years in 2F. Hunters everwhere for bear, they push all the deer onto the posted property and into their hiding spots. Then come rifle the next week there are very very few hunters. The deer arent pushed out of their hiding spots that they where pushed into a few days earlier, which results in lack of deer being seen. Oppening day of bear i counted over 26 deer, of that 6 legal bucks. Opening day of rifle i counted 2 deer in the SAME spot, and no bucks. I am a firm believer there are a ton of deer up there. Just no hunters pushing them out of their hiding spots. I hunted all day yesterday, the openning day of doe and i counted no more than 10 shots total. With the lack of hunting there will be a huge increase in the deer herd and everything the pgc did to improve habbitat will be erased

Re: Where are the hunters?

WAs wondering the same thing yesterday. For the opener of antlerless I think I heard 30 shots all day, near or far. No one was moving deer either. We left around 2 and the area was a ghost town. We have a nice population in my area of 2F so lack of deer really isn't the issue.

Re: Where are the hunters?

I couldnt agree more jayson, next season should be awesome. They took a pile of bear out of these woods so that should also help with fawn recruitment next spring. Im already looking forward to 2013 with high expectations. We heard maybe 20 shots 8 being close enough to matter. My daughter shot a doe at 10 am. We got up to go for a walk and they were feeding just above us on the ridgetop.. not a care in the world. Friday afternoon we saw 7 doe all coming out of the laurel to feed. The deer in that area just werent acting pressured.
