Seeing Fallow Deer?

I was out at my local shooting range today just shooting the bow a little bit and on the way out, in a farm field off the dirt road, stood a fallow deer. Yes it was a fallow deer, NOT a whitetail. Im pretty sure there are no wild fallow deer in PA. Just wanted other opinions, maybe something i didnt know. Are there fallow deer in pa or did this one most likely escape?

Re: Seeing Fallow Deer?

They do escape from game farms every so often. There have been a few shot here in PA. No breeding pop that I am aware of.

Re: Seeing Fallow Deer?

shoot it as it is fair game...no laws and a free meal..It is like the pigs that are in Pa until they passed the law.....no law on them free to be shot IMO.

Re: Seeing Fallow Deer?

actually I believe Pa Teeny is correct. There is no season on them and no protection on them, therefore they would be treated as feral, no? Not saying i'm correct, but have seen them posted on here before with no issues.

ACTUALLY..I emailed the PGC in Aug when the topic came up about Red Deer and the responce was "NO", only the owner can shoot it.
Email the question about shooting an animal (Fallow deer) that got out of the preserve and let me know their responce.

Re: Seeing Fallow Deer?

I talked to a game commisssion and he said they are feral and can be shot...treated as an invasive species....I also asked about the Mountain lion....If I shoot one what could happen...he said a $100 fine...no jail time or anything as they are not in pa. He said shoot it and call a lawyer and be ready for all hoopla....

I'd shoot either as I do not want them here in pa....pigs too...
