I don't know why people cant just be happy hunting good deer for their area, whether its a 90" or 120". The hunting industry is turning hunting into something it should have never been. This sounds like a waste of money.

Re: Stocking deer for trophy genetics

You want trophy deer? Do this:

1. Plant food plots.
2. Keep the doe to buck ratio at 2-3 to 1.
3. designate some area of your ground as sanctuary.
4. Dont shoot small bucks.

I'll wager that's all it takes.

Hunting: 10% skill and 90% location.

Re: Stocking deer for trophy genetics

Interesting approach but I suspect it will be a big waste of money.

I'm familiar with some of the other "similar" projects stated at the end and the ones I know of really have not been that successful for producing trophy fisheries or animals.

I think the bucks will be shot or poached long before they have a chance to put their genes into the next generation. If they were wild bucks they may have a little better chance of surviving but farm raised deer, just like farm raised quail or pheasant don't typically do too well when released into the wild.

Of course what can you expect from Alabama? They are doing everything possible to try to turn their state into a trophy destination for hunting and fishing as are most other states. I've seen presentations at meetings about how AL and GA are trying to produce the next world record largemouth bass at their public fishing ponds which are just glorified hatchery ponds.

Not familiar with the project, but humanity can tend to overkill a good idea.
And the more a deer project costs, the more it costs to hunt.
