Re: tuscarora state forest

Hunted there as a kid ( 35 years ago) and stayed at the Green Lantern Motel ( I think I got that right). I remember that it was very hilly. Walked straight up in the morning and straight down in the afternoon.

A lot of terrain out that way. Start downloading and printing off topo maps and talking to the local WCO. They'll tell ya what's goin on in the neighborhood.

Good luck,

Stop by the Ranger Station along rte. 274. They will have all the maps you will need. Always been deer and turkey there but the last few years the bear numbers have been on the rise.

There are a good amount of rattlers there too. I hunt grouse thru the forest there and see a good amount of deer. I was up there one day last year in the rut and there were no deer hunters around . I saw bucks all morning going thru the cuts looking for does.

Loop Road is a good place, down by the power lines.

Re: tuscarora state forest

Very good hunting. Lots of rough terrain where I go, which helps to keep the deer numbers up and hunter numbers down.

Areas near the parking lots and roads, yes. Get back from those areas and no. In rifle season I rarely see another hunter. I hunt the top of a mountain in rocks and laurel where most guys don't want to go...when they shooting starts, that's where the deer seem to go. There are lots of areas like that in the Tuscarora.

SSSSSHHHHH! That's a little to much info for everyone. Nothing really to see in the Tuscarora, unless you're just hiking.
