Backup rifle

Wondering how many take a backup rifle to camp. This year I am thinking a pair of Marlins in .270 and .30/06. Camp is 4 1/2 hrs from home so would hate to have my rifle or scope crap out.

Re: Backup rifle

I think everyone who comes to my camp to hunt brings a back up. I always have my .270 and .45/70 on hand and carry whichever strikes my fancy that particular day.

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

Re: Backup rifle

I drive about an hour for deer hunting and I always take 2 rifles. You never know when something will happen.

Only the pentitent man will pass.

Re: Backup rifle

I carry 2-3 rifles to camp....heck even during rifle season i usually keep 2 in the truck....

Never know when something will happen to one...

Out of 20 or so at camp there is only 3-4 of us that bring more than 1 rifle...hate to say it but one thing im not loaning you is my rifle lol....too many guys abuse and neglect their rifles...no one is carrying mine lol....they stay locked in the truck....

I also keep my hunting rifles dang near the same...all rem pumps setup the same..one is scoped slightly different...all different calibers but other than that, they are the same...all loaded with accubonds so all can be bear rifles...and all can be deer rifles....hunting season is too short to rely on one gun....and i dog 98% of the time so things are bound to happen...part of the game...

One year i swear a kid at bear camp screwed with my scope to try to ruin my year....one of my ring screws was loose as a goose....i had no idea...but locktite and checked pre season i am almost positive someone screwed with it...ive never had a screw come loose like that....luckily i already killed my buck in bow season...hit the yote and doe i shot low but killed em both...thats when i knew there was an issue....way low hits....not normal for me at all...

I now keep em locked in the truck not in camp...i keep my keys hidden..one in camp one outside...cant prove foul play but highly suspected...he cant take camp picking on him....and he is dumb enough to mess with a mans rifle...
