Tuberculosis in deer in crawford county

my son and i went deer hunting tonight on a Red Tag property. he shot a nice, fat, huge, healthy, looking doe.

that is until i opened her up, her lungs were stuck to her chest wall. from what i was able to find on the internet this might be tuberculosis.

i have many questions, i have to call the PGC in the morning.

i wore gloves when field dressing and processing. it was getting dark and i could not see the color of the lungs to well.

is the meat good? are we at risk of something?

anybody ever have this happen to them or hear of this before?

The PGC and state heath officials should get involved. Not amateurs.

Bovine tuberculosis has struck in the U.S in recent decades. . Human Tuberculosis was once fairly common in PA decades ago.

Winter Wonderland
""Winter Wonderland" is a winter song, popularly treated as a Christmastime pop standard"

"Dick Smith, a native of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, was reportedly inspired to write the song after seeing Honesdale's Central Park covered in snow. Smith had written the lyrics while in the West Mountain Sanitarium, being treated for tuberculosis, better known then as consumption.[1] The West Mountain Sanitarium was located off N. Sekol Ave. in Scranton, Pennsylvania"

That is great news, with EHD we sure don.t need TB in the state.

Re: Tuberculosis in deer in crawford county

over the phone after talking to me, the rest of the signs were not present.

no lumps or pustules on the inside of the rib cage or the lung tissue.

i left quite a bit of the tissue inside the deer in case samples were needed, i cut the lungs open and everything looked like it always does.

years ago i shot a deer behind the game farm in crawford county and the lungs in that deer had a web like casing all over them and the chest cavity.

it was pretty tough getting the insides out, the processor at LeBouef country meats said it was possibly pneumonia also. i didnt call the PGC or anybody then, that had to be 30 years ago.

meat was good, no odor, no tumors found during butchering and i'm still here.

anybody else ever find weird stuff growing inside their deer?

Re: Tuberculosis in deer in crawford county

Nothing growing like your speaking of but after butchering my own doe had a giant Bot Fly maggot crawl out of the nasal passage. Was a little disturbing to think of that crawling around in its sinuses.
