Mentored Youth Antlerless Tag??

Can anyone tell me why a mentored youth cannot purchase their own antlerless tags? If all of the parameters are met for the requirements of the mentored youth why can they not have their own antlerless tags. I do not quite understand the PGC reasoning behind making the mentor transfer their tag. Wouldn't they sell more tags if the youth could get their own tags as well?

Re: Mentored Youth Antlerless Tag??

If I recall correctly, it's because you have to be 12 to have/apply for a 'license' whereas a 'permit' is available at any age. Note that our typical doe tag is an antlerless 'license' and the mentored youth 'permit' won't allow a 'license' to be purchased.

I'm sure others more in-the-know can elaborate, but that was(at least at one point) the gist of it. There's something there with DMAP 'permits' too....I think they're non-transferable, but you have to have a 'license' to obtain them.

You really under estimated the ramifications of the boondoggle you have just perpetrated!

Because the law says you may not purchase a hunting licnse until you are 12 years old. A child under 12 cannot by law purchase a doe license. A mentored youth program permit is a permit, not a license.

Don't mean to hijaack but you can only transfer one tag a season right? What I'm saying is I have two doe tags and two mentored youth sons but I can only transfer a doe tag to one of them right?

I recommend you contact the PGC or one of the active WCOs here with that question. The way it is writen in the digest it could be taken both ways. It says a mentor may transfer <span style="font-weight: bold">one</span> antlerless license to <span style="font-weight: bold">a</span> mentored youth participant.

It is in the digest and you can also see it on this PGC press release in a thread in the youth forum
