Price for deer processing?

What does it cost now to have a deer cut up to be later wrapped for the freezer? I have done my own in past years but I am looking at archery season (warm weather) and new time constrants. I would just want it done enough so I could put it a the refrigerater to age. Thanks

Re: Price for deer processing?

Average price here, Monroe County, is about $75. Thats for burger, steaks, chops, loin. Extras like beef sticks, bologna, jerky is more, usually alot more. But nothing like a fresh beef stick in your coat during late season flinter!!!

We all make choices, some good, some bad, can you live up to yours?

Re: Price for deer processing?

Ours is about the same. To be brutally honest the cost of getting it cut up has prevented me from shooting deer. I still like to hunt but I am much more picky about releasing an arrow. I can buy chicken for nearly the same cost per pound and I like it better. I know that you can't compare cost directly, but for $75 of can have 40 pounds of deer or 40 pounds of chicken I will take the chicken everytime.

The fun is over once you pull the trigger

Re: Price for deer processing?

It's been a while since I have taken a deer to a processor (I do my own) but last I heard around York/Cumberland County it was $80-$90 just for a basic cut (burger not mixed, steaks, roasts, loins).

I do my own:
Refrigerator from craigslist - Free
Counter tops (butcher tables) out of uncles house - Free
Outdoor Edge Knife set for b-day form father - Free
Grinder - $100
Gambrel - $30
Knowing I am getting MY venison and who and what has touched it - PRICELESS!!

Get 'em down and keep 'em down

Re: Price for deer processing?

I payed $70.00 to have it skined and cut up,steaks, loins and roasts. I always have them add pork to my hamburger,3 lbs to every 10 lbs of deer burger.Im not sure what the pork costs.

Nature can teach us alot.

Re: Price for deer processing?

That's why I butcher my own. Started doing it 3 years ago and have done 7 deer so far. Have more than paid for the equipment - vac-sealer, knives, grinder, jerky gun. I'm going to get a cuber for this season.
