First Time Deer Hunter...MUST DO's/HAVES

i have previously only hunted small game because deer has seemed overwhelming to me...i'm kinda a laid back kinda guy and deer season seems a little crazy to me...but i'm going to take the plunge this year....so what are the absolute MUST DO TIPS or MUST HAVE items?

archery or rifle?
treestand or no treestand?
deer [censored] or no deer [censored]?
what do i do with the entrails?
can i just drag it out of the woods?

i am a fisherman by birth and i know that you can get all kinds of technical but simply a bobber and a worm works just fine...i kinda want the bobber and worm technique for hunting so what is the bare minimum that you can get away with and still be successful?
i don't care about bucks or points or anything..i applied for a 2B tag...just looking to enjoy myself and have some chance at bagging one...

rifle you know how to shoot, shells, license, orange hat, orange vest, good boots, coat and pants, gloves, long johns, deer drag harness you hook around your chest, waist and shoulders (walmart), small, sharp knife, lunch, drink, emergency kit, toilet paper, ink pen, cell phone, gps if hunting remote area.

scout in small game, select likely spot, get there by 5:45AM first day, sit all day til dark or until you shoot one, then gut it (leave guts in woods), attach tag to ear with safety pin and drag it out of the woods.

thats it in a nutshell.

A buddy is a must have! That way you will have somebody who can attest to all your stories and adventures, and help you get your deer outta the woods!

In most of 2B you can't use a rifle. So I suggest your shotgun a bow or crossbow.Any archery weapon will make getting access to hunting easier.Flourescent orange hat and a flourescent orange vest are required for the shotgun season.Camo is needed for archery.A rifle sighted barrel for your current shotgun or one with a scope would be the bobber and worm technique.

First thing you need if you are hunting local in Allegheny County is somewhere to hunt. A lot of the county is posted

Like mentioned, a bow or crossbow would be wise investment here.

All you need is a shotgun/compound, license, hunting knife, and a drag. Good Luck!

I see said the Blind Carpenter to his Deaf Helper as he picked up his Hammer and Saw!

First and foremost. Don't let anyone tell you what's a trophy or what's not a trophy! You decide that. Then with your laid back attitude hit the woods and have fun. Best of luck! Hope to see your success pics on the site!

Re: First Time Deer Hunter...MUST DO's/HAVES

i actually know a decent patch of woods for hunting in allegheny county which is a miracle in itself...i don't wanna get into specifics but i am on the outskirts of the county and literally across the street is the next county over....will be able to walk to my spot in literally 10 mins or so...

i imagine deer are attracted to certain areas just like fish are...any certain trees or areas that are deer magnets? i see them around my area in the actual woods and also clearings...

so whats a brush pile, dock or weedline to a deer?
