Dads first big Buck

My father in law has always loved to take all the kids out hunting and has been the first to volunteer to hunt with a young impatient kid. My wife always tells me stories of him waking her up to shoot a buck sneaking through the swamp. He has been putting up with sniffling whining fidgety kids for the past 20 years and has been happy to do it. He has never complained once. The past three years I have been watching the magic of good genetics and nutrition grow the best buck I have hunted in my lifetime. I was blessed and able to harvest a mature buck pretty early in the season so I was actually able to guide for my father in law for the last month of archery season. We saw a lot of nice buck but he wasn't able to get a shot. He was just so happy to get out and see some deer. This was the first year in his adult life he was able to go out hunting on his own and it was perfect timing. It was a unusually slow first morning and by 10am I was feeling a little guilty about choosing his hunting location. Then it happened a flash of brown running in the acorn flat below us. I got my bino's on her and once I saw her pause and look back I knew it was on. I told him to get ready. When I saw the big fellow that was following her I instantly new it was my buck. He was heading right towards us. After a moment of anxiety when he disappeared before cresting the hill pops saw the doe trot up over the ridge. We both were shaking at this point. As scripted he was close behind the doe and with a light whistle he stopped and the 30-30 lever action did the rest. I was so happy for the old man. He deserves it more then anyone I know he has put the kids first his whole life and has earned it.
