haven't hunted there in 3-4 years for deer. Since my dad died, don't have no reason to go and nobody to go with. We had a pretty good avg, about 75% between us on bucks. Hunting pressure was weird down there. One year there'd be 10 trucks where we parked, next there'd be none. But, most guys didn't get more than 50 yards from a road.

Last I heard they have a CWD outbreak in Allegeny Co. Not sure you're even allowed to bring deer you kill there back into PA right now. If anybody knows, please let me know. PGC Website says no import of carcass from CWD areas???

bownut. i have done enough research to know that maryland green ridge state forest had 1 deer last year that tested positive for chronic wasting desease. the boned meet is totally edible. maryland dnr posts game wardens at interstate on ramps to check trucks etc enteing interstae so this wont spread. if killing a deer at green ridge, a person must take thier deer to one of two deer processors in the area or butcher the deer and take only boned out meat and boiled off skull plate from antlers.the bad stiff that has cwd in it are the brain, spinal column and lymph nodes near the hind quarters.pain in the rear. but will help the ease of it spreading.it is spread through saliva.

that's what I thought. Too much trouble for shooting a spike buck or 50 pound doe. I'll keep hunting eastern MD farm country and PA. I really liked hunting out there though. We had a lot of fun draggin' spike bucks back to our camp in PA and hanging them on the meat pole. This REALLY turned some heads especially when the 3 pt rule went into effect. LOL

Turkey hunting down there remains fabulous, and I try to get down there as much as possible in the spring.

Re: green ridge/savage river state forests /maryland??

I had hunted there for 15 plus years. This year I didnt go because of the CWD found there. I researched this hard as I wanted to go real bad but found enough evidence on the National CWD website and other Bio sources that convinced me to stay away. In my opinion they are going to great lengths for some reason to keep it from spreading because it is far worse than they let on. On the CWD site they flat out tell you DO Not consume any deer that are in the containment area.....WHY?

A squakin' turkey don't live long
