A question for all of you internet biologists

Have a little area of woods that I bow hunt...spent a fair amount of time up there this year and only saw five deer....all bucks, three of them were VERY nice. Saw 4 of the 5 during the rut.
There is little if any mast crop in the section that I hunt, agriculture within a half mile.

Now there is also a development about a mile from my house. My son took a ride the other night and counted 35 deer in a field by the development, 7 of which were bucks, the remaining, of course, does and yearlings.

My question to you: if a doe makes a mistake and walks through the area that I hunt and I happen to be there...is it BANG or let her walk?

I prefer my kid hunt and fish rather than steal and deal,

Do you want a doe? Yes? Bang!

Do you want a buck or nothing? Yes? Let her walk!

Only you can decide. I was faced with a similar but completely different situation. Mine was more drag related than anything though....long drag=buck only. I haven't filled a doe tag yet because of it.

You really under estimated the ramifications of the boondoggle you have just perpetrated!

Buck tag is filled....this is more geared to KenBuck's thread about letting deer walk in bad habitat....thanks!

whether you let her walk or not she is not going to start frequenting you woodlot. The deer will be where the food is. Its not like you letting her walk will in turn start growing a herd of whitetail in your woods. Now next year there may be a good mast crop and 6-7 doe maybe move over from that corn and make your woods their core area. Either way killing that one doe won't change a thing.

I disagree with Hammerdown- 1/2 mile is nothing to a deer, they will feed in fields when they can anyway. your theoretical doe has likely been bred so letting her walk helps the herd where you hunt. The deer behind my house live there but i see them headed 1/2 mile to the fields every evening.

How long does it take you to walk 1/2 mile....10-15-20 minutes. A deer has about 14 hours of darkness to walk during the rut time of the year.

35 deer in 1 field, I think you can go ahead and take a doe or 2 or 3.

an area with a mix of agriculture and development, I'm guessing there's loads of deer there. Take a few does.

It probably doesn't matter whether or not you shoot one. I look at it this way... If I need the meat, bang, if not, I am not shooting. I can't see the point in shooting a doe if your already good on venison.

There is no "X" in my bow!!
