Backpack Hunting

Anyone deer hunt a place by backpacking into a remote area, setting up a tent and using that as a base camp to hunt a locale? Not looking for anyone to reveal their honey holes here; just something I've thought of doing sometime and wanted to know if anyone has done this or knows of someone that has done it?

Done it out west. Never here in PA. But it would be fun to do!

Re: Backpack Hunting

I've done it in West Virginia.

Re: Backpack Hunting

Didn't the banjo music keep you awake at nights?

I prefer my kid hunt and fish rather than steal and deal,

Re: Backpack Hunting

Colorado. That is up around 12,000 feet....all Public land for elk. I have been lucky enough to score a real nice 6x6 archery bull and a few great rifle bulls. All self guided. i LOVE it out there.

PA would be great to hunt from a base camp. In the big woods....much like the Benoits hunt New England. I will do it some day

Re: Backpack Hunting

I am at a lose of places you would be able to do that in PA. Not too much open public land. You can try it in my back yard if you wish, there are some pines you would be able to hunt in the morning.

Re: Backpack Hunting

I did something like you envision in the Allegheny national forest. Wonderful time. You just need a good 4 seasons tent. Almost anywhere in the Pa Wilds would be great.
