Finding this ruined my day

I was sitting in my stand today and happened to notice this deer lying in a pile of brush about 50 yards behind me. I've seen him before and even got a shot at him in archery without success. It appears he was shot in the neck just below his right ear. He's been laying there a while. He's a 10 point, 6 on one side 4 on the other.

Where have you been?

nice buck its a shame someone couldn't or didn't claim their trophy. I would assume shot where you said it was the deer didn't run far if at all.

Thats sad to see it go to waste. It might have been poached. Like 5chunter said it probably didn't run far if any and the hunter must not have looked very hard for it.

Blend in or go hungry !!

Re: Finding this ruined my day

This is on my families property. There is a guy with a stand about 100 yards from where I found this deer. It looked as if this deer died in mid stride the way it was tangled in the brush.

more hunters than you imagine think if a deer dont drop in its tracks they missed.

i seen to many guys take shots at deer and never even check up on it.

Re: Finding this ruined my day

Sure it was a bullet ? DCNR found a nice 3 year old 8 pt earlier in the year with a hole close to where you're sayin. The WCO took it and had it tested by a local biologist. It died from abscess. They figured it was gored from fighting.

It's a good spot. Just not today.

Could be. I'm not certain it was a bullet. It had a hole in the top of its head as well right between the antlers. Could have come from fighting I guess.

It looks to me like it has been there longer than the beginning of rifle. It is hard to tell for sure from the pics. A deer shot right thru the neck would probably not take more than a step or two. That size buck isn't likely to be left laying. I would guess a fighting injury.

Traditions only last if you pass them down to your kids!
