First Deer

Woke up Monday, went out for breakfast. Got into the woods around 6. Sat until Legal shooting time. I started hearing shots then, but couldn't even imagine shooting, because I could barely see. At 7:05 4 doe ran into the hollow. Not knowing if they were buck or not, I grabbed the gun. They stopped about 10 yards from me, because they saw me. About 10 minutes later, 4 more doe came out of nowhere. They walked around for about 15 minutes before 4 more showed up. As they exited the hollow, a button buck came by. Watched him for about 5 minutes, and then 2 more doe came walked out of the hollow at about 8:00. Sat around for a little bit, and then saw movement. I realized it was a deer, and saw antlers. It was walking up to the top of the hollow, at about 70 yards. I got him in the scope and grunted. He stopped behind trees. Let him walk 10 feet, and grunted again. Same thing. Another ten feet, and I grunted a third time, still no shot. The fourth time he gave me a shot. I squeezed the trigger, and he instantly dropped. He lay there for a few seconds (Seemed like minutes) Before getting up, running to my dad, and dropping again. He did the same thing 3 times while running out of the hollow. I yelled to dad "Got him". Right after I said that, we heard another shot. I thought right away I was going to lose my first deer. So I hurried out and found the blood trail.... After following it up the hill, a hunter came and yelled to my dad, asking if he got one. My dad told him I did, and the guy said he finished him off for me, and that it was a nice deer. He asked if it was my first, and I replied "yes." It was then I found out how nice of a deer it was. I saw the buck before, but didn't realize how nice it was. While dad went and got our things, the guy showed me how to gut it. Instead of having us drag him back through the hollow,he offered to drag it out with the ATV. They loaded it in their truck, and brought it down to us. My pop came, and we showed it off at the farmhouse. Then we brought it home for my little sister to see.

6 point 15" Spread. Shot at 8:30 75 yards

Re: First Deer

Beautiful buck, I hope it's the first of many.
Good story, it's good to know there are still nice people
in the deer woods. That guy deserves a big thank you.

Re: First Deer

Excellent. You never forget that first one. You might want to consider giving sonme cuts to the fella that helped you out, if you know who he is and how to find him. He did you a solid favor, one that not everyone would.
