Opening Day Dilemma!

Well, the Master Baiters have decided to set up on the corner of my property with a ground blind looking down into my hollow with a two man ladder stand about 60 yards below the ground blind. They have also decided to spread corn all around the ground blind.. To get to their new hot spot they have driven their 4 wheeler across my land and on state forest land..

Since I am an absentee owner, and we only visit once in a while before the hunting season (last time we were there was about a week ago) this bait pile and ground blind just showed up within the last week.

We are going to call the WCO, but I hope he/she is understanding enough to go for the criminals and not stop us from hunting our own land!

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure Slob hunters are nationwide, but sometimes it feels like PA has more than our share.

Re: Opening Day Dilemma!

It is PA. Bedford county.

This is just the situation that has been discussed on this board before. I don't know who set the ground blind up and spread the corn around, but in the eyes of the WCO it is not their job to figure out who did the baiting, only to cite those hunting near or over it. Ignorance is no excuse.

I have often thought it would be really easy with PA's baiting laws for an anti-hunter type to bait a hunting property or stand and anonymously call the PGC. Also easy for an adjoining property owner with a dim view of hunting to bait and theoretically interrupt adjacent property hunting.

This case is clearly some local yahoo who is little more than a trespasser and a criminal. But, I hope most can see the predicament he has put me in!!

Waiting for a return call now from the WCO.

Re: Opening Day Dilemma!

The PGC will place yellow tape up around the site and it says NO HUNTING...It will be a large area..You may want to discuss this with the Warden if you want to hunt there..

Re: Opening Day Dilemma!

That really stinks. I was born and raised in Bedford COunty til I went into the USAF. I hear that stuff is getting worse every year. Good Luck Glenn.

Re: Opening Day Dilemma!

Two year ago I had a kid put up a ladder stand not far from where I hunt. he had put a pile of corn about 20 yards in front of it. He rairly if ever hunts in that thing. Because I still wanted to hunt there without worry of the bait I picked it all up, and took it out of the woods.

This was on state forest.

Re: Opening Day Dilemma!

Glenn, you are doing the right thing. Do not be surprised if your hunting area is shrunk. It will sting this year but they most likely will not be back.
