Wyoming Trip

Went out to Wyoming for a combination Mule Deer and Antelope hunt with my father the second week of October. We went out with Rocky Outfitters in the Eastern part of the state. Within two days my dad and I had antelope on the ground and after some time glassing I put a stalk on this guy here. Stalked about 800 yards quickly as the light was fading and put him down instantly with a Berger VLD Hunting bullet at 180 yards. My dad also shot a nice 5x4 mulie as well. Thanks go out to my dad for enjoying the moment with me and my wife for ensuring that I make it for the trip. Thanks for reading.

Re: Wyoming Trip

Love those high tight racks - great forks too. What caliber and bullet weight of Berger did you use? Were you happy with the performance on the deer and antelope?

I just loaded some 140 VLD's for a 270 Win and they really shoot well. I am anxious to try them out on game.

Congrats.

Re: Wyoming Trip

I shot them both with the .270 WSM and used the 140 grain VLD's. Both animals dropped instantly, and when we gutted them the vitals were liquified. They are a devastating bullet. Good luck with yours!

Re: Wyoming Trip

Thanks for the info. I have at least 3 western outfitters that use Bergers on everything from antelope to elk and bear and they really like them. They seem more like a target bullet to me but I have no firsthand experience like you and they do.

Re: Wyoming Trip

You are fortunate to be able to share those moments with your Dad. Congrats on the trophies. That'a a nice buck.
Are you getting the mulie mounted?
I took a similar one in Colorado a few years ago that actually had the top tines touching...they formed a circle.
Shot him late in the day on a full moon.
By the way I was in western Wyoming at the same time you were out there and shot my first elk.
