This a weird one

The other morning my youngest son goes outside to get a bag of wood pellets, which we keep under our porch. As he turns around, he is startled by a deer, which is only a few feet from him. My son puts down the bag of pellets, & takes a step towards the deer, which takes a step towards my son. The deer, which is a button buck, winds up getting close enough for my son to pet. My son went to come in the basement door to get my wife, and his I-pod, and the deer tried to follow him into the basement. In all my son spent about seven minutes playing with this deer. He even got some of it on video, which he posted on Facebook. This deer looks perfectly healthy, and even playful at times. I also heard some of my neighbors had similar experiences with this same deer. Our theory is, someone found it in the spring when it was a fawn, and kept it. But as it got bigger they decided to release it. But unfortunately the deer has been humanized, which in the end is not going to be good for the deer.

It would be better, and safer if it did get shot. I have seen the conflicts, some dangerous, that can happen when a deer, especially bucks, have no fear of humans. They wind up getting killed so it may as well happen in season.

I thought about this too. My son said he smelled strong, and his tarsal glands were dark. However, I would not want to shoot it, nor do I want my sons to shoot it.

Because so far he's been in people's back yards, which is a safety zone issue. So with that in mind, do you have any other suggestions.

Yes, call, the PGC and tell them you are having problems with a deer that approaches people.
