Back from Montana

Hey guys, just got back on Sunday from Montana, Had a great trip! We left on Oct. 17 and got there on the 19th, started hunting turkeys on the 20th and I killed a nice Merriam gobbler in the afternoon, had 6 come in and the biggest one was about 50 yards, the next biggest one was 20 yards, so I smoked him! We were also doing some deer scouting and it was looking pretty dismal! Apparently they got hit with a pretty bad case of EHD and it almost wiped out the whitetails since I was there in the spring. We talked to alot of landowners in the Block Management program and all were saying the same thing, no deer! Season started on Saturday the 22nd and I didn't see my first buck until Monday afternoon, about 40 miles from where we were originally going to hunt! We did find a few mulies, I ended up seeing 12 different bucks from Monday afternoon until Wednesday when I got mine. First saw him as I came over a ridge in the prairie, he was feeding away from me and jumped a fence and headed into a draw, I could tell he was big, so I slipped down to the fence and got up on a post expecting to see him to my left and nothing! Well I caught movement out of the corner of my eye and turned to the right and there he was, well I missed him! Watched him run along the fence forever and finally settled down, loaded my gun and started walking after him, caught up to him 3 draws over about an hour later, he was feeding at 293 yards, 1 shot through the neck put him down! He's a 7 x 6, 25 1/2 inches wide. Had about a mile and a half drag, luckily it was like a golf course out there! My best mulie by far, he was also the only buck we got on this trip. This was a DIY on public ground.
Thanks for looking!
Here is my gobbler, 20 lbs, 7 inch beard.

Re: Back from Montana

Looks like a good time. I hate going out there anymore because I never want to come back home. And then I spend weeks wishing I was back out there.
