Longer 'gun' deer season?

Instead of two weeks to kill deer with cartridge firearms why doesn't the state of PA follow the lead of other states and enact a longer deer season?

Lots more money to be made that way.

Re: Longer 'gun' deer season?

Cause other states don't have as many hunters as PA does. You think guys are complaining now about not seeing any deer. Extend the gun season, kill even more deer and see how much they complain then.

If you legalized Sunday deer hunting and went to a 4 week or more 'gun' season you would be bringing in more money to the state of PA.

I think the short season is unattractive to non resident hunters and they prefer to hunt in areas with longer gun seasons.

Re: Longer 'gun' deer season?

i will post the obligatory "it will be the end of hunting if this happens." same posting as when inlines, compounds, and crossbows were added. add a week, cut antlerless tags and most likely be a wash. after the first 2-3 days far fewer hunters are actually out in the woods.

Re: Longer 'gun' deer season?

Yes it would more than likely bring in more money but to what extent a 4 week "gun" season would seriously deteriorate the pa deer herd. the deer numbers are kept in line quite successfully with the two week rifle season along with the other special seasons. I believe we offer more than enough seasons. It may not all be rifle but the special thing about pa is the slightly different opportunities such as flintlock only hunting. Something I hope never changes.

If its outdoors I'm willing to give it a try.

He never said anything about a longer gun season. He said longer deer season. Change of weapons like in other states. More opportunity = happier hunters with more opportunity. Kinda the same type of changes made to spring turkey. Didn't kill all the turkeys did we?

I say raise the price of non-resident licenses. Its a win-win!
