Re: PA RUT 2011

It is the same time every year. A bell shaped curve starting towards the end of October

Re: PA RUT 2011

Last 4 years my trailcam. mock scrape pics have gone from night pics to daytime around 10/20 and stay that way til about 11/10. I finally took heed and planned some of my vacation accordingly.

Unfortunately the job does not allow for the first 5 business days of a month off and that is likely the best week in november...but even hunting the fringes of that makes good memories.

I will report what See...but it has been that way since before we could hunt the rut and had to quit at Halloween. i remeber going bunny hunting in november and watching bucks go nuts in the field while i waited on the beagles to circle.

Re: PA RUT 2011

I'll be out for the first time next weekend. Even though it is about the same time each year, the excitement of reading about what people are seeing is worht the time an effort. Great idea.

I'm not trying for perfection, just improvement.

Re: PA RUT 2011

I always looked forward to the first week in November. Although the last couple of years, at least for my friends and I, it seemed the last week of October towards Halloween was when we saw the most action.

Re: PA RUT 2011

It's triggered by the photo-period which is about the same every year. A few early doe, a few late doe, but after getting tired of anecdotal stories, I started a detailed journal three seasons ago.

Eight of ten big buck sightings from the stand have been between Nov. 3 and Nov 10. I saw six bucks last year on Nov 6. My daughters were going back to school the night of Nov. 7, and they hit a huge buck on the PA turnpike. The state cop who arrived there said it was his fourth deer/car incident that hour. All bucks.

There are always exceptions. If you have to choose five days, Nov 5-10.

what do you use for your mock scrapes? Drip bottles, any special scent?

Re: PA RUT 2011

Muzzeloader season in VA starts November 5 and runs for two weeks. 3 buck tags to fill... Won't be up in PA hunting during that time period, but will be the week before with the bow.

I save any urine based scent, buck or doe or estrous, from the previous year to sweeten the scrape. I also picked up some deer pellets from underneath a neighbor's chestnut tree to toss around.

Apparitions has a new "Nightmare" scent that is pre-orbital, for the licking branch. This might be something different to throw at them that they haven't experienced from other guys.
