Graterford Doe Hunt 1-3-19

Fifty (50) people chosen by lottery to participate in a "doe" only deer hunt today and (50) on 1-17-19.
I don't have my contacts like I used to for some of the perimeter properties but I am sure there are archery hunters on those perimeter properties waiting for those big bucks to get pushed their way.
There was one hunt over there many years ago that a herd of deer coming off the prison property crossed rt. 73 just north of rt. 113 that shut down the road.
Curious to hear any stories from this years hunt.

I did this hunt with my son years ago on one of the youth days. We got settled by 7:10 but weren’t aloud to shoot till 7:30. At 7:32 he killed a doe and it was the 53rd deer to come my. Also saw my first black phased yote on that hunt.

Camp life,it don't get much better!

with that many deer, they should shoot them from the towers and feed the prisoners why do they get to have that many and the rest of the State gets HR efforts.

Years ago I did a goose hunt they had on the property and it was the same thing. They counted how many shells you took in and you better be coming out with that many shells or casings.

Would have loved to get in on the deer hunt.

I have not heard of this hunt being done. It's gotten a lot more built up around there over the years so I very seriously doubt that there will be any kind of a hunt there.
There is a relatively new hospital right across Germantown Pike on the grounds of the old golf course so safety would be paramount.
25FTUP may be able to chime is on that one as he is down that way....

That is awesome.
At Graterford, they are asking each hunter to bring 5 cans of food for donation to the local food banks. Still a cool thing to do.

That's why I am proud I was a member of the Department of Corrections. They always did solid stuff for vets and the needy.

One of my buddies got shot at a Graterford hunt. He took a 12ga slug through the thigh.

One of my other buddies hunted the farm park in Norristown. He said they placed you in certain places so you were only shooting down hill. As I recall, the first year in the farm park it was buck or doe. They changed it the next year because everyone was holding out for a buck and not shooting the doe.

Did they stop doing the farm park hunt? I hadn't heard anything in years. I think my buddy hunted it around 1999ish.
