Steel ring on buck antler

A guy I know shot this buck in Erie county opening day with a steel ring between his G-2 and G-3 tines, any ideas how it got there.

Isn't it obvious? He's married.

If you know...is the ring totally closed, or somewhat open?

Very strange.

Here is a closer pic, it looks like the ring has a tab on the top so maybe it could be opened and closed.

I never saw the buck in person I just received the pic. I would have to agree game farm, it had to be put on after the full development of his antlers.

I just went to google earth and according to the measuring tool the buck was shot about 10 miles from Wattsburg.

IMHO, I think this buck was previously shot, incorrectly & illegally tagged on the horn and not pinned thru the ear. The buck likely gave the shooter a chance to fix it after field dressing.....and when not corrected, the buck got up, stuffed his innards back where they came.....and took off.

All in an attempt to educate the shooter.
