Bear Sighting in Dauphin County

Folks I was wondering if any on here could point me in the right direction for Bear Season.

Hunt with a Gang in the Poconos every year and we have pretty good success but alike to break up the hunt by adding new counties for the gang and add another county to our list of counties we have killed bear.

This year I am thinking of adding Dauphin County for the guest County of the year.

So here is my ask if your willing and I am not asking that you provide your favorite spot:

1.) Can you let me know where you are seeing black bears on a regular basis in Dauphin County so I can get a closer with my scouting when I set out cameras.

2.) SGL 211, 246, 210, Boyds Tree Conservation Area, State Forrest, Indiantown Gap Etc.... Whats your thoughts on any of these areas. We only hunt bear in an area and everybody in the gang goes back to their home counties or state for the Deer Openers so we wont be infringing on your Deer hunting.

If you care to provide information I will appreciate it very much.

Been to boyds hiking with wife on trails.I would not bother for bear there, it is really not that big(not to say there would not be one there) and others hike on the nature trails there..The gap would be out of the question due to restrictions.Lots of other gangs hunt the sgl there.Call local WCO.Oops, I mean Game Warden now.Sounds like you know what your doing.Look at arials harvest records in areas you asked about and go from there.

Thanks HSY93 I watch your posts through the season and appreciate the feedback. Do you know anything about SGL 246 I think they call it Roundtop outside of Hershey.

For bear? I think I'd look elsewhere. A bear sighting around here (Elizabethtown) usually makes the news. Roundtop is roughly centered between Middletown, Hershey and Etown, though it is closest to Middletown.

I see bear just about every year on 211. Problem is narrowing that huge area down to a huntable size. IF I was going to hunt bear on 211, I'd go with Clarks valley as an entrance area, because it's easy. I'd wade across the creek and cover as much territory as possible. I'd probably concentrate on the stretch between the game fields and where camp shikellamy used to be.

Also check out the Western most part of Stoney creek, where it drops down on to 322..

I kill because I'm hunting, but killing is not the reason I go hunting.

Forget SGL246, it's a small, isolated mountain far from any connection to the north woods. Stick with SGL211, 210.

Byron,

He has a big gang, around 15 or so guy's, so assuming they are fit, they should be able to put on a pretty good show up Clarks and Stoney with proper planning.

A1FIL,

My forester buddy has been actively cruising timber in upper Clarks all summer. I'll shoot him an email and see if he has any leads for ya, although he may be on Water Authority land which is off limits. Worth a try though.

I'll just mention that the vast majority of land owned by the water authority is open to hunting. Really, the only areas off limits are the areas directly around and below the reservoir.

I kill because I'm hunting, but killing is not the reason I go hunting.
