Elk in Colorado question

Hey Guys:

I'm looking for some guidance. I'm applying for an out of state elk tag. When I get to the part where is asks for "education type" and "education number", will my PA license number work? Do I need to find my old hunters safety certificate? Do I need to take an online course?

Don't know if the link will work or not. If not, check out "Hunter Safety Card Number" in the General Hunting Forum.

You have to put your Hunters Education number in that spot. Us old timers got a card but no number. In that case I had to enter the PA1970 (1970 was the year I took the class).

I actually took my card in to a Colorado DOW office the second year out there. The reason was they certified it or something like that bottom line my hunter ed. number is in there system I never have to carry the card or remember the number again.

That's important info...if you don't present your HTE card to a license agent in CO...in person..... you are not "certified" and you must carry your HTE card while hunting in CO.

Your tags/license will say whether you are certified or not.

thought you had to do it at the DOW office though. My first year I had to take the course prior to going out since I had no information on it from 1971. I presented it when I got my bull over the counter license but second year is when I took it to the DOW office in person to have it certified since there was a office in Montrose close to where I was hunting. Maybe an agent can certify in now but that was around 2010.

P 3 (2018) CO Big Game booklet. TO GET YOUR HUNTER ED VERIFIED, take your hunter ed card to a CPW OFFICE. Make sure u call Harrisburg and get your 6 digit number and write it on your card.

HTE is very responsive on email, too. They'll send you a response usually within a business day, sometimes within just a few minutes. They have sent me a pdf of info that satisfied TX licensing requirements when I couldn't find my HTE card and waited till I was jammed up on time before buying my license. They got me hooked up quick with the info I needed.

Yes, if you take your hunter education card to a DOW office they will “verify” it for you and you will never have to worry about carrying it all again.
