Need help with this one

Yesterday i harvested a DMAP deer. The deer was standing broadside feeding about 50 yards away i placed the crosshairs behind the front shoulder and squeezed the trigger. Deer ran about 40 yards and fell over. When i gutted her the only organs with damage was part of the heart and the lungs were shredded. The entrance wound and exit wound was about 4 inches behind the shoulder. Now here comes the confusion. I kept smelling something awful when i was hanging this deer to skin. I got down to where the shot was and found the source of the smell. The entrance wound was packed with deer crap and the exit would had deer poop and what looked like what the stomach would have (like crap and grass which was all over the shoulder under the hide. Never saw that before. I threw the ribs and that shoulder away and of course the smell was gone. When i gutted her there was no poop in the chest cavity, no damage to the intestines, and no damage or liquid from the stomach. I have been scratching my head over this since last night. Has this happened to anyone before or how this could have happened. Maybe regurgitation? Thanks

I've also had that happen on a buck about 5 years ago. My theory is that the speed and force of the bullet hit the esophagus and pulled semi digested food up out of the stomach. My shot was exactly like yours, broadside, right behind the shoulder. Shot entrance and exit not even close to hitting guts (and they weren't hit), and talk about stink!!!
You did the only thing you could do by cutting away all affected meat.

Just a thought...if you didn't see the crap when you gutted the deer...could you have dragged the deer over the poop?
