WHAT IS THE SLOWEST {FPS} BULLET YOU WOULD USE ?

Would you use a bullet that you could load, for deer, going 1400 to 2000 fps?
Myself and a couple of others on here cast bullets and can or do use them to hunt with !
Could you ever bring yourself to use something going this slow to hunt deer with ?

My 50 cal. Flinter runs in that range, @ 1600-1700 fps using PRB.

And I could bring, and have brought myself to shooting at a deer out at 50-75 yards with it.

Yes I would use a bullet at those velocities. Many people get way too wrapped up in velocity and harvesting a deer is not nearly as mystical as some make it out to be. Put the bullet where it belongs and the outcome will be certain.

A slow .45/70 bullet, 405 grains at 1300 fps is plenty adequate.

My old Remington model 14 1/2 chambered in 38/40 pushes a 180 grain at 1100 fps and has killed deer since 1915

My 30/30 cast load runs real close to 2000fps and I am always amazed at how effectively it kills with a properly placed bullet to the rib cage, just behind the front shoulder. 3 big hops and DRT.

Yes. I've used the .45-70 405 at those velocities. Always wanted to use my Grandpa's .38-40 but he gave it to my uncle.

Growing up in 2B, I've been a slug hunter my whole life, so I'm used to slow. I didn't start getting into your faster rounds until my mid-20's. 25-06 is what I use in other WMU's. I just picked up my first flintlock, so I'm reversing course.

Re: WHAT IS THE SLOWEST {FPS} BULLET YOU WOULD USE ?

I use my own cast bullets for all of my hunting. Slowest is around 1000fps in my S&W 329PD .44 mag and the fastest is 2175fps in a Encore 357 Maximum. I even use cast bullets in my .50 caliber flintlock, .50 caliber inline and in .357 revolvers, pistols as well as .357 and 30-30 rifle. Momentum with a heavy cast bullet is the key not excessive speed. It my S&W 329 I use a 245gr cast that is good between 800-1300fps. I load it for 1000fps due to the revolvers light weight. Six .44 rounds weigh is almost as much as the revolver. As I said momentum is the key with cast not speed. Longest shot with the 329 was a lasered 78 yards with a complete pass through on a large doe. Best reason for slow cast is very little meat damage.
