Deer herd Potter Co. WMU 2G

I`ve been going to Potter Co.,Pa. ( Cherry Springs & Austin ) on and off since the early seventies.
Haven`t been up for about six or seven years.
How`s the current deer herd fairing?
We`ll be hunting out of First Fork Lodge in Austin, Pa.

I have a camp in portage just outside Austin. Just from my experience I have only seen a few does whenever we go up, but I don't deer hunt up there. But the guys that do in my camp haven't gotten a deer in a few years.

I scouted that area last December not far from Cherry Springs. Saw some decent sign. First visit for me in that area.

I have a camp not far from first fork lodge, few miles up first fork road. I think the herd is better then what it was 6-7 years ago but still not like it used to be. I still hunt up there just because I love hunting the big woods.

You have to put your time in on scouting.Like Skwirl said"Don't waste your time and money"if you are not willing to burn some boot leather.

Its alot better than years past but you really have to put your time in. The deer are there. I hunt there every year we have a camp in cherry springs. i do alot of walking and do pretty well as deer sightings go. Locate the food sources and you will do fine and hunt close to the clear cuts god knows there is enough of those.

Hunted Friday and Saturday of inline just off 872 between Wharton and Austin. 4 of us doing drives and saw 5 deer total. Not much in the way of acorns or deer sign compared to the last few years.

Headed up tomorrow for a few days to hunt some archery, possibly some small game, and turkey (depending on how archery goes). I did see a fair amount of deer during archery last year and harvested a 6 point this same weekend last year but rifle was a different story.
