Preston County WV

Anyone hunt Preston County? How is it on National forest land? Crowded? Not looking for 180 class or 40" spread just want to see some deer and get a chance at a buck.

Re: Preston County WV

When you say National Forest in Preston County I'm guessing you mean the southeastern section of the County around US Route 219? Great hunting that does get some pressure and that continues into Tucker County. There are some really good areas in the northern end of the County from Bruceton Mills, WV north to Markleysburg, PA as well. I never hunted it but been through that area a ton of times and see tons of deer.

The horizon is your starting point.

Re: Preston County WV

If you were referring to state forest land (Coopers Rock), there are a lot of what look like road hunters. I was in there last year for the first time during hunting season and there was a pretty steady flow of traffic along all of the dirt roads. At least one car every 5 minutes all day.

Re: Preston County WV

You might want to explore the Cheat River Canyon. You can get more information on the location and access on the Friends of the Cheat website I believe this river corridor was recently purchased by the state of W.V. So you may want to research the states website for access and hunting in this steep walled canyon
