Newfoundland Moose advice/suggestions

Heading to Newfoundland the last week of October to hunt moose with three other guys. This will be our first moose hunt. Anyone who has hunted moose there, please give me advice/suggestions on equipment, travel tips (including the ferry over) and any other important info you think we may need.

Good waterproof boots, raingear, and quality optics. Hunting the island is as close to hunting Alaska as it can get. Can't wait to hunt it again. I saw lots of bears on our trip and all three in my party took one. Don't know if their in when you go but if they are I suggest you add one. Good huntin'

Re: Newfoundland Moose advice/suggestions

You can't kill a big one if you tag out on a small one.I never went but would b patient if I did for a good bull and make sure my guide knew what I was willing to take.I see a lot of pics with little moose shot out there which is fine if that's what your happy with
Make sure no one in your partyhas any past arrests;dui ect...or you won't get across the border without paperwork from their govt first.Besides that listen to big28 for your gear and buy quality raingear or first bush will destroy it

Re: Newfoundland Moose advice/suggestions

Its a great hunt. I have gone to Newfoundland twice and came back with nice bulls. You must wait for the one you want. there are plenty but like jayden said, you wont get a big one if you shoot the first thing you see. I carried a 300 wby, but my buddy used a30.06 and my son a 7mm mag, all did the job. Besides the hunting the trip was an adventure as well. Ferry boat, landscape, and wildlife. I hunted the Portland Creek area.

Take as many LARGE coolers as you have room for! WE shot a smaller bull in Maine afew years ago it when we picked it up at the butcher's it filled a 120 and 2-110 qt. ice chests. We couldn't have fit even 1 more pack of burger in.
