300 deer slated to be killed in pike count.......

good ol hemlock farms community is at it again, seen it on the news last night....until they put up a 9 foot high fence around that entire community to keep deer out, they will always have that deer problem....deer know where to go where they can't be hunted....by next year they will have 300 new deer where those 300 were taken out....but the most biggest thing is what will this do to the hunting outside of hemlock ?????????....

exocet w/STS, munch mount
boo string and trigger

the deer herd is getting smaller outside of hemlock farms because the sharpshooters lure the deer out of the Delaware state forest and shoot them along with the deer in hemlock farms.

I'm not sure what the herd is like outside of the hideout which is in wayne county.

There must be good habitat there for them or is it the lack of predators?

I assume it's legal to feed deer in these private communities as far as state law, but do any of these communities have restrictions?

I lived in a similar situation for 18 years and was on a wildlife community in that community. This area was about 14 sq/miles and had 3500 acres of undeveloped land supprounding it and open to bowhunting. The timber on the undeveloped land was high graded so there were very little mast producing trees and no regeneration made it past the deer. The residential areas were loaded with mature oaks.Once there was a frost or two,the deer headed into the houses to feed on acorns and landscaping that was replaced almost every year.

We put a no feeding ordinance in that area and it did little good.To drive through there today and see herd of deer gathered in many yards, eating corn.

Re: 300 deer slated to be killed in pike count.......

I ready the article. It said it was 46 square miles and that there were 500+ deer in there. Are there undeveloped areas where hunting would be feasible? We were killing between 130-200 deer every year with bows on about 3500 acres. It didn't cost anyone a cent.
