Gander Outdoors is closing all their stores that do not have RV service bays. When they were bought by Camping World two years ago they installed RV service bays in some GO locations, to mimic services offered at most Camping World stores. Evidently they found operating outdoor stores that did not offer RV service wasn't a good fit, so they decided to close those stores.
Kind of funny, because the owner of Camping World is Marcus Lemonis, host of the MSNBC TV show "The Profit. A show in which he "rescues" failing businesses. It appears he couldn't rescue his own business, Gander Outdoors. Lost some street cred there.
Under Gander Outdoors, the company operated a maximum of 69 stores (Gander Mountain had 162). They are likely to be at a total of 15 Gander Outdoors stores when the dust settles. And those in reality will be nothing more than Camping World stores that sell guns and hunting equipment. The companies true focus is RV sales and service.
I was surprised to see it closed too. I could be wrong, but I thought a few months ago when I was in the Greensburg store, they said they would remain open. Pretty sure that's why I signed up for their Good Sam rewards program.
