Only thing I ever heard like that was in Germany if you're handling fox. Apparently they could have some type of molecular sized parasites on their fur that becomes airborne and could get in your lungs, where they begin to grow.
I read the whole thing too and saw nothing about wearing a mask. This isn't rocket science, if you open a deer up and see the lungs are funky and lumpy walk away and call the PGC and get a permit to take another deer. I don't know about you all, but you can get vaccinated against TB I have been and today it can be cured unless it is one of those strains that the illegals are bringing with them. This stinks, just another case of domestic animals contaminating wildlife, do the name CWD ring a bell? I do wear rubber cloves when I field dress deer because take medicine for my AR that compromises my immune system. This is a non issue for me, first of all because it isn't a problem in PA, yet, and second if I open a deer up and see funky lungs, we all know what healthy ones look like, I am going to see the doc and be guided by what he says to do.
"The CDC didn't go so far as to recommend wearing a mask, however, during the field-dressing process.
"We don't recommend that at this point in time," O'Brien said. "The physicians in the group have speculated that that might be the route by which these hunters got infected, but we don't have any actual data to show that. In fact, when we've done some sampling of air inside deer carcasses in the past that had tuberculosis, we weren't able to actually detect any aerosols of the bacteria."
All these warnings going out its a wonder anyone even hunts anymore. You have to be careful of CWD,EHD,EEE mosquitos and now where a mask to take care of your deer. All I also forgot about the deer tick. What is this sport coming too?
Before long we'll be wearing orange suits like them white ones the scientist wear with the head gear and long gloves just to go in the woods. Geez where does it end?
we do most of ours "southern style". Except for rare occasions, we never touch the "guts". Only time we're even close to them is when we carefully cut the tenderloins(fish) out. Did one yesterday, and one this morning
