First one ever..............

One for all the snake lovers.................

I've been in the woods for a half century. About 2 weeks ago I found something I have never, ever seen before...……. I was doing some spot spraying of goldenrod in one of our Christmas tree fields and found the shed skin of a genuine 7+ foot black snake.

Around here, the garden variety black snake is from 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 feet. 6 footers are not common...…..but definitely not unheard of. The dude that left his hide in my field is MAJOR LEAGUE !!! The skin was not far from a groundhog hole. I'm guessing that's, possibly, where he calls home.

About every two years I run into a big un. Biggest I have found measured 6 ft. I placed a 4 footer in my shed for the mice. I haven't seen him but saw a shed not to long ago. No mice but when I open the doors I look around before I go in.

Could be wrong but I think the shed skin from a snake is a lot longer than what the actual snake is. It stretches. Still probably a bigger than average snake though.

My point is he is talking about a black snake. Black snakes do not have fangs. If you are thinking rattlesnakes you do not "pull a fang" either. We handle over 200 rattlers a year and I never heard of pulling a fang for the fish commission to study. Just trying to clear that up.
