440A Stainless Steel or German Stainless Steel

Can a 440A Stainless steel blade be adequately re-sharpened? Is it a decent blade for a hunting knife? I've been looking at purchasing some knives from Smoky Mountain.

You need to look at www.knifeup.com web site. It looks to be a cheaper stainless steel. It all depends on what you are making, usually the knife steel is the cheapest thing. Takes the same time to make the knife. Be Safe.

All blades can be sharpened one way or another. just a matter of how you do it and preference, I have no experience with the stainless you mention. But take some time do some research and you will find more than you can imagine on a net search. Best wishes on finding what you want

i have heard that 440 steel is some of the better knife steel. the only problem is that there are 3 grades of 440 steel and I don't really remember which one is best. To be honest I can sometimes find knives on sale that say 440 steel on them. Right now I gut deer with a 3 inch bladed ten dollar folding knife. It does seem to sharpen well.

440c has the most carbon which translates into a better cutting edge, all things being equal.
With the way liability laws are today, most of the factory blades out there are relatively soft.
If you are looking for a factory blade of SS or near ss, look for D2 steel.
