Joined the AR Nation Today

I finally jumped into the AR pool, always wanted one. With PA on the verge of making it official (at least for a few years) to use the platform in deer season, I am the proud new owner of a DPMS GII Recon in .308. Just so many choices out there, did a fair amount of research, I wanted to go a little more than base-entry model but yet be realistic on my budget. I also had $800 in Cabela's cards saved up so that helped frame the decision.

Got home in time to head to the son-in-law's farm to let a quick few round fly. Standing offhand at about 50 or 60 yards the first two were a little low until I figured out the sight picture, then blew up the three 1/2 gallon milk jugs with the next three shots, two in rather quick succession. The kabooms scared their puppies so that was enough to break the seal on the first day.

Can't wait to spend some time and get better acquainted, and for out of the box, first-time AR-10 experience, I am a pretty happy dude. With a LOT to learn for sure.

Now, to research some optics and get ready for the fall!

Congrats!

I too have always wanted one, but held off because of not being able to hunt with them. My next firearm purchase will most likely be a AR. Just trying to figure out which way to go.

Good luck, Tony

I absolutely love it. Regardless of what the vote was this year, it will eventually happen.

This is just a really fun, interesting weapon, wish I woulda done it long ago. Even had Mrs. Deth out this weekend and she let five rounds fly. Put them all within a handprint at 50 yards standing offhand. Maybe a couple more times out and she'll get the itch for her own . She's kinda petite, so maybe a reason for a .223...............

Welcome aboard, soldier!
Bummer on the hunting part fell through...I call shenanigans! I think the gun control weirdoes mounted a campaign against it. It was supposedly 80% in favor when the law was passed and the PGC announced they would be legal for all seasons.

I have sent a few sharply worded e-mails their way, and encourage EVERYONE to do the same.

That will give me more time to get mine done, as I'm building mine from scratch.

Meanwhile zap a couple of groundhogs and coyotes this year, and hunt out of state whenever the opportunity comes your way. Welcome to the club! 125-130gr varmint bullets are abundant in .308, then 150-165gr stuff for deer and bear. As far as optics for it, well, the sky's the limit. SWFA makes some good choices as do Vortex, Bushnell, Nightforce, US Optics, Kahles, and Leupold.
