Short Barreled Shotgun

Kind of want one for my next NFA toy. Does anyone have a short barreled shotgun? What platform did you use? I like the looks of a cut off double barrel but am leaning towards an 870 cut back even with the mag tube.

Re: Short Barreled Shotgun

Believe Remington and Mossberg both make 14" tubes..

Not sure if they are factory or not...I've shot both...

Believe the Mossberg's come setup with a ghost ring...the 870 I shot had (what looked to be) factory rifle trijicons with a stupid short radius...I don't care for the short sight radius....my other issue with the 870s is they only take 4rds where the Mossberg takes 6...

I don't like one action better then the other...they both work...I know I'd take the Mossberg over the 870s I've shot though...

Something to think about while shopping...

Re: Short Barreled Shotgun

I don't have an nfa shotgun but if you choose one with a pistol grip for me it's all about the safety.

Mossbergs have the top tang safety which is hard to switch on and off while maintaining a normal pistol grip.

870s have it right by the trigger and it's a lot easier to manipulate.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

Re: Short Barreled Shotgun

Yep forgot to mention that point...

Huge peeve is a Mossberg with a pistol grip stock...just doesn't work well with the safety...

I don't prefer one over the other...the 590 with the speed feed stock is nice...4 extra rounds...side saddles...functional and have a purpose..but can get in the way and add a little weight..on a shorty might not want a side saddle..depends I guess...I like em "clean".

My full sized 590 holds 9+1...with a 6rd side saddle and speed feed stock I can do a full reload..20rds of 12ga fire power..but...big heavy gun...

A lot of guys overlook the old 12ga...even with the Shorty's I've always been able to slam slugs where I want on a silhouette at 50yds...

Best part is you can buy them fairly cheap compared to say an AR etc...

Re: Short Barreled Shotgun

Remington makes an 11-87 with a 14" barrel, might be restricted to LE sales only though.

keltec makes a nice one too 18.5" barrel.

Re: Short Barreled Shotgun

I like the Keltec. In fact, I held one last night at a local gun shop. I believe 14" Remington barrels can be purchased direct from Remington. Still leaving towards an 870 with the barrel cut off at the end of the mag tube, making it 12". There is a company you can send your barrel off to that will cut it, install sights and thread it to accept Remington chokes.

Re: Short Barreled Shotgun

My favorite SBS is a scatter gun technology 12 ga owned by a guy I work with. It is smooth bore and will easily cloverleaf slugs at 50 yards. Scattergun is now owned by and manufacturing as Wilson Combat. I'm not sure if they are still manufacturing shotguns or only doing custom work on Mossberg's and Remington's. May be worth looking into. I'm sure there is a nice price tag on them either way

Re: Short Barreled Shotgun

I had Tromix do my Saiga 12ga into an SBS. Looked really cool with 20rd drum.

Bottom one
