Wind Wizard wind speed meter.

I know you can spend a small fortune on meters and computer gizmos but the Wind Wizard gives you wind speed and temp for around $40 bucks. Anyone know how well they work?

Re: Wind Wizard wind speed meter.

My Personal opinion is wind meters are a waste of time. Keep in mind that is strictly an opinion and this why.

When shooting long distances there are too many variables to overcome for a wind meter to be effective. If you read the wind speed at the rifle it can be and most likely will be different downrange due to terrain, trees, elevation path of the bullet, wind gust, and so on. The best thing to do is practice. I think shooting at long distance paper gives you the best practice you can get. Watch the conditions and see how the point of impact changes, it can change quick, much quicker than one could imagine. Nowhere have I seen how quick a condition can change than when shooting at Ground Hog matches or any other long distance competition. By saying that I mean it's easier to see than hunting ground hogs mostly because it's on paper. I've seen change from one shot to another at 500 yards change more than 10" horizontally.
