First taste of PRS

Yesterday while online I saw Southington Hunt Club in Ohio had an open range day for today. They had a 100 yard range to zero and then a steel range that started at 200 and went to 700, increasing by 100 yards each time. I had never had the opportunity to shoot further than 400 yards max. I went with my cousin, he had a 270, and I took my new 6.5 grendel to see how it did. Started at 200 to make sure I was in good shape, and then went on from there. I managed to shoot perfect up to 400 yards, then one miss at 500 before I got two more. Moved to 600 and one miss followed by two hits. I tried 700 with no luck.
Just as we were packing up, one of the guys at the range came over and started talking to us. He was shooting a short action custom 6mm (I think creedmore) and ask if I wanted to give it a whirl. I managed pretty well with a 700 yard hit off a prop.
This may be the start of a new addiction...

You better be careful now, that rabbit hole is deep and has many roots to snag your wallet on the way down. While I haven’t shot PRS I am into long range shooting and have taken a few classes mostly because taking the class is cheaper than buying all the steel and spending all the time setting it up at the local 1000 yard range.

If you are looking for more info take a look at a forum called Sniper’s Hide, there is a wealth of information there on all manner of long range shooting including PRS and would be a good place to start.
